A 13-year-old girl, Nancy Peter, has died after she was allegedly beaten by Pastor Roman Samson, General Overseer of Goodness of Jesus Ministry in Wula, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, over a missing N30,000 belonging to her mother.
According to Nigerian Tribune, Nancy was taken to the pastor on June 1 by her mother, Agnes Peter, following repeated allegations of theft. Agnes said she wanted the pastor to counsel and correct her daughter, denying that she asked him to beat the teenager or that she was present during the incident.
Pastor Samson, however, claimed Agnes requested that he punish Nancy, stating that she had already beaten the girl herself. “She told me that the girl stole her N30,000 and asked that I should beat her… I went for my horsewhip and gave her about 13 to 15 strokes before I discovered she had become very weak,” he said.
Nancy reportedly admitted taking the money and revealed where it was hidden before it was recovered. She later died after being taken to hospital.
Both Pastor Samson and Agnes Peter have been arrested and are being held by the Homicide Section of the Cross River State Criminal Investigation Department as police continue their investigation into Nancy’s death.
