Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute Rebekah Heinrichs has questioned Iran’s commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts with the United States, arguing that Tehran has shown little evidence of negotiating in good faith.
According to the interview, cited by Fox News on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Heinrichs said U.S. negotiators remain engaged with Iranian representatives, an approach she noted is supported by several Gulf states. However, she said public statements from Iranian officials and recent military activity have cast doubt on Tehran’s intentions.
“What the president is talking about is clearly we do have the United States negotiators engaging with somebody over in Iran,” Heinrichs said. “The Iranians even publicly at this point seem to be in a campaign to embarrass President Trump by saying there are no negotiations at play.”
She added that there was no evidence demonstrating Iran’s willingness to negotiate in good faith, despite ongoing contacts, and pointed to what she described as recent actions by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including reported activity in a strategic strait, as a source of continued concern.
According to the interview, Heinrichs said the contrast between diplomatic engagement and Iran’s public denials has heightened uncertainty over the direction of the negotiations amid broader efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.
