Human rights lawyer Prof. Chidi Odinkalu has responded to comments by former presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina, who said poor leadership and corruption are preventing Nigeria from reaching its potential.
According to a report by Daily Post, Adesina said Nigeria possesses the resources needed for development, including a large youthful population, abundant natural resources, fertile land and a strategic geographical location. However, he argued that poor leadership and corruption continue to hold the country back.
“Nigeria has everything needed to move forward, including a large youthful population, rich natural resources, fertile land and a good geographical location. Poor leadership and corruption are holding Nigeria back,” Adesina said.
Reacting in a post on his official X account on July 3, 2026, Odinkalu suggested Adesina shared responsibility for the problems he identified, citing his role as spokesperson during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“He saw both up close and enabled them,” Odinkalu wrote.
