Iyiola Omisore has denied reports that he directed his supporters to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Accord Party to support Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
According to The Nation on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the claims emerged after several of Omisore’s loyalists defected from the APC following his disqualification from the party’s governorship primary, which produced Bola Oyebamiji as its candidate. The defectors, including former commissioners Yemi Lawal, Folorunso Bamisayemi, Taiwo Akeju and former Special Adviser Jamiu Olawumi, said they had Omisore’s approval.
Speaking through his campaign Director-General, Israel Famurewa, Omisore dismissed the claim, insisting he remains a committed APC member and never authorised anyone to defect on his behalf.
Famurewa said any decision to leave the party was made independently by those involved and was driven by personal grievances. He added that Omisore would publicly announce any future change in political affiliation and urged APC members to remain united ahead of the governorship election.
