TCN announces planned 10-hour outage in Ondo communities

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned 10-hour power outage that will affect electricity consumers in Ondo Town and Okitipupa on Tuesday, June 30.

In a statement issued in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the outage will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to allow engineers carry out critical upgrade works at the Ondo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

According to Mbah, the maintenance involves transferring the Ife-Ondo 132kV transmission line from the proposed Omotosho-Ondo 132kV line bay to the Ife-Ondo 132kV line bay. At the same time, TCN will commission a newly installed 60 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) 132/33kV transformer at the substation to improve power infrastructure in the area.

As a result of the maintenance, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to receive power from the transmission station for distribution to customers in the affected communities. “Consequently, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to off-take power supply to its customers in Okitipupa and Ondo Town during the 10-hour outage,” Mbah said.

TCN apologised to residents and businesses that will be affected by the temporary disruption, assuring consumers that the outage is necessary to strengthen the transmission network and improve electricity supply.
