Lawmaker and actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has revealed that his journey into politics began after a meeting with former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole in 2007.
Speaking on the Morayo Afolabi-Brown Podcast, Elliot said he met Oshiomhole in Benin City and expressed his interest in pursuing a political career. According to him, Oshiomhole informed him that then Action Congress leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu, popularly known as Asiwaju, would be visiting the following week.
Elliot said the meeting with Tinubu took place as promised and marked the beginning of a series of political connections that helped shape his career.
“In 2007, I met Adams Oshiomhole in Benin and I told him what I wanted to do and he said Asiwaju was coming in next week. Asiwaju came and I was there and he introduced me to Asiwaju and before you knew it, he introduced me to Sunday Dare. And the thing kept going from 2007 and 2008 and I just remained consistent,” he said.
The Surulere lawmaker noted that consistency played a crucial role in his transition from Nollywood to politics. He said he focused on building relationships and staying committed to his goals rather than expecting immediate success.
