A video circulating online has sparked debate after showing a confrontation between operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and lawyers at a courtroom where African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore was being held.
The footage, shared by Symfoni TV, appears to show DSS operatives preventing some legal practitioners from gaining access to the courtroom. The incident created a tense atmosphere and drew reactions from observers at the scene.
In the video, several lawyers were seen attempting to enter the courtroom before being pushed back by security personnel. The development prompted criticism from a bystander, who accused the operatives of targeting legal professionals instead of focusing on broader security challenges.
“You’re fighting lawyers, you should be ashamed of yourself. Just because of one person that’s not a criminal, shameless people. Our children are in captivity, una no fit do anything, una no get intelligent. Because of one person wey never carry knife before, na him una gather like this. You should be ashamed of yourself. You guys don’t have understanding of the law,” the man said.
The footage has generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users supported the criticism and raised concerns about access to justice, others urged caution, noting that the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
The episode has renewed discussions about the balance between courtroom security, legal access, and adherence to due process within Nigeria’s justice system.
