Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, urging citizens and leaders to reflect on the factors behind the country’s growing challenges.
In a Father’s Day message titled “A Time for Reflection” shared on his official X account on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Obi recalled his childhood experiences of travelling across Nigeria without fear, contrasting them with the insecurity affecting many parts of the country today.
He said he grew up in a period when journeys between regions, including trips from Onitsha to Lagos and from Maiduguri to Calabar, were undertaken freely without the anxiety now associated with road travel.
According to Obi, that era was marked by stronger unity, trust, and interaction among Nigerians regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences.
He lamented that insecurity, including kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities, has altered daily life and weakened relationships among communities.
The former presidential candidate called for a renewed commitment to restoring trust, strengthening national unity, and creating a country where citizens can live and travel freely without fear.
